Hardwoods vs Softwoods

What is the difference between burning hardwoods versus softwoods?

Firewood is rated as Hardwood or Softwood. Hardwoods tend to give more heat and less smoke in a long, hot burn; which equates to less Creosote, the culprit in many chimney fires. Hardwoods have a higher density, which makes them burn slower, and therefore give off a slow steady heat. But if you enjoy cutting Firewood and loading the Wood Burner, or if you want to warm up the cabin in a hurry; then Softwoods may be just right for you. Softwoods have a low density and they burn much faster, giving off a lot of heat in a short amount of time.

When ordering firewood, always buy seasoned hardwoods if you plan on burning wood in your fireplace. Turfsavers supplies a variety of seasoned hardwoods which include but are not limited to: Ash, Hickory, Oak, Sugar Maple, and some Elm. Your firewood can be delivered to your home if you're located in Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Washington, and the northern part of Milwaukee County.
